People often thank me for serving my country, but I remain humbled by the fact that I never faced combat. Although I enlisted in the military knowing it was a possibility, I narrowly missed it. The alternative thing to do was to try out and serve MacDill's honor guard and pay my respects to those who made the ultimate sacrifice. I have stood over the graves of many fallen soldiers and listened to their families' grievances. I believe that if more people had shared this experience, they would be more mindful of their words and actions towards our flag and nation. God bless America.
